Marie passed the Starting Strength platform exam in late 2017. Prior to becoming an SSC, she studied Communications at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
From 2016-2018, Marie ran barbell classes coaching special needs adults through the Bearcat B.E.S.T. Program at Saint Vincent College and at Acme Providers in Greensburg, PA. While interning for fellow SSC, Nicholas Racculia, PhD, she helped to compile a large amount of data from the Starting Strength forum logs showing, not-so-shockingly, that the Novice Linear Progression works even when only moderately followed. (For details on the findings see the article “WNDTP” on startingstrength.com)
Shortly after moving to Utah in 2018, Marie and her husband opened Red Iron Barbell, a rare black iron gym in the middle of the desert, which has seen many strength transformations among its members. And as is required by the Aasgaard company, this bio will mention that Marie has dogs. Four of them.
She is currently a mentor in the Starting Strength Coach Prep Course where she is able to share her passion for strength with young coaches. She is excited to extend this enthusiasm and dedication to Starting Strength Cincinnati as Head Coach.
Marie has experience coaching a wide range of populations including high school and collegiate athletes, special needs adults, physically disabled adults, children, injured and master’s lifters. She has had great success introducing the Starting Strength method to police, military and first responders. Marie is exceptional at connecting with clients of a variety of backgrounds and enjoys the challenge of adapting strength training programs that fit the personal needs of each lifter.
Adam Martin has a history training and coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in West Virginia. He began training with the Starting Strength model in 2019 and put on 70 pounds. He squatted 550lbs, deadlifted 600lbs, pressed 255lbs, and benched 420lbs. He began coaching clients all over the Cincinnati area in 2020 and has helped many people become stronger versions of themselves. His goal as a coach is to help others overcome their personal battles and adversity while finding their inner confidence. Adam believes, “Strength is fundamental to a well-lived life. Anything you do, you are better at it if you are strong. Whether you are a nurse, physician, dentist, football player. You are better at it if you are strong.”
